Hokey Cokey Roseland ~ Saturday 11 July 2020
We are super excited to bring you the ‘Roseland’, the latest edition to our Hokey Cokey Swimrun series for 2020.
The Roseland Peninsula is a designated part of Cornwall’s area of outstanding natural beauty, for the quality of its landscape and dramatic coastal scenery. It is home to picturesque fishing villages, wide open stretches of sandy beaches, sheltered coves that are connected by the south west coast path. In early July the paths are usually pretty firm and lush with colour and foliage. Don’t be surprised to meet wild horses whilst running and a calm crystal clear sea, buzzing with wildlife – we hope!
The course is an A to B, pairs only race taking in sites including: Nare Head, Broom Parc, Dodman Point and Vault beach to name but a few. The 36km route will be both brutal and beautiful or as we say, ‘Brutiful’.
The course includes 10 swims totaling around 8km (23% of the course) with the longest being 2km from Chapel Point to Portmellon. On top of that there is 28km of tough coastal path running, with the longest stretch being 7.5km long! We have intentionally selected to have as many entry and exit points on and off rocks to create a sense of adventure and excitement. In all there are 20 transitions, so get practicing! We promise you a real test of physical and mental endurance, a key factor being how you pace yourselves throughout the day.
You’ll begin your swimrun journey in the lovely coastal fishing village of Portscatho and you will finish in Mevagissey, once the center of the pilchard industry and our HQ for the event. There will be a 45 minute coach journey from here to Portscatho included in the price. Spectators are welcome at the start but will not be able to travel with the competitors on the coach.
Run, walk, crawl and swim your way along this stunning course, but remember to breath in your surroundings and look back at where you have come from, for a sense of achievement. But most of all have fun together with your swimrun partner and be thankful for what Mother Nature has to offer.
