Who are the Mad Hatters?
Mad Hatter Sports Events was created in July 2014 by three keen athletes with very little hair between us; the two Johnnies and Martin! We have all competed in numerous events and felt that a large number of them do not provide value for money and had very little atmosphere which really didn’t inspire us to return. We wanted great events with a fun element that still provided a physical or mental challenge. We set out our mission to organise events that provide all these factors.
After an enormous amount of hard work, planning and trepidation we held our first event, the Pentewan 2k Sea Swim on 28th September 2014. We had 62 enthusiastic participants of varying ages and abilities from all over the UK - it was a huge success!
In October 2015, we organised the South Wests' first ever Swimrun event called the Hokey Cokey, which saw 50+ competitors from across England run and swim around St Austell Bay. The Charlestown event has evolved and numbers continue to increase and we now welcome entrants from all over the UK and Europe. The Hokey Cokey has proven to be a huge success and well worth the trip down to Kernow - come and have a go if you think you're tough enough!
We now have eight events across the year including Running, Swimming, Aquathlon and Swimrun
in 2023 only one Mad Hatter remains after John W and Martin left the business.
We continue to develop new ideas, explore awesome locations and mad race formats.
Our team look forward to welcoming you to one of our events soon and offering you a Mad Hatter High 5 at the finish!!!
You are a Mad Hatter!
Social Swims
On most Saturday's during the year we organise a social swim at locations around Cornwall. These swims are free to attend with coffee and cake after (you pay for your own!). You swim at your own risk and there is no official water support.
Location and meet times are posted on our Facebook page.
Shop
Our online shop features a selection of Mad Hatter merchandise. From time to time we also offer limited amounts of left over race t-shirts and goodies. Your purchases can either be posted out to you or collected on a race day. Let everyone know...I'm a Mad Hatter.
